Letter: Thanks to Bowns for rodeo series

Posted

Editor:

Saturday evening on July 1, my wife Sandy and I were honored by the Evanston Rodeo Series. We were driven in a wagon around the arena about three times while the announcer read a summary of my activities over the years, plus mentioning Sandy, my wife of 67 years.

They had also mentioned, during the summary, our specific support of the series, followed with John Bowns, committee chairman, presenting me with a beautiful Rodeo Series buckle for all the support I had given the series from the time it began in 1992 up to the present.

I was mayor of Evanston at that time and, I, with the city council’s full support, pledged the City of Evanston’s complete approval and support of their series of events.

This pledge was given to the Bowns brothers, Jim and John, the originators, at the time they attended the city council meeting in 1992. The council and I wished them the best of luck and hoped their series would be a big success because it would be a good economic move for Evanston.

However, years ago Jim passed on, but John, with a strong committee, has kept the Evanston Rodeo Series going for 25 years, and if there is anyone who deserves credit for the continuance of the series it would be John Bowns.

He has worked hard, and in some cases he has taken a lot of guff from a number of folks, but he is the one who should get the most recognition and credit for his effort in keeping the series going.

The program was “dream come true” for Jim and John. It was their idea. Thanks to both of them!

Sandy and I wish to take this opportunity to show our appreciation to the Evanston Rodeo Series committee and all involved in the program. Thank you, we were extremely honored and enjoyed the show very much.

We only hope the committee keeps the program going. It not only helps Evanston’s economy and brings folks to town, but it is also a good wholesome kind of entertainment for all. Plus, it helps in keeping up the great tradition of the State of Wyoming (the Cowboy State).

Sandy and I, along with our son Tib, would also like to thank the series committee for the beautiful plaque presented to Tib, representing Uinta Realty, Inc., for the support Uinta Realty has given to the series over the years.

Good luck to you, the series committee, in the future, and God bless.
