CASPER -- The Evanston High School girls’ basketball team suffered a 39-35 loss to No. 2 Kelly Walsh in a Class 4A West Conference matchup on Saturday.
No. 4 Evanston is now 14-4 on the season and 6-2 in conference play. Kelly Walsh improved to 14-4 and 7-1 in the West.
Evanston had an opportunity to tie the game at 36 with 19 seconds to play, but the Lady Red Devils went 1 of 2 from the line to trail by one. Evanston got the offensive rebound after the missed free throw, but in a one-and-one situation, the Red Devils came up short on the front in.
Evanston secured another offensive board and was sent to the line to shoot two free throws with 10 seconds remaining and the Red Devils still trailing 36-35. Evanston missed both attempts at the line.
Madison Vinich sank two from the charity stripe to give Kelly Walsh a 39-35 lead with 5.6 seconds to play and the Lady Trojans held off the Lady Red Devils from there.
Evanston senior Emmery Wagstaff scored 14 points to lead the Lady Red Devils.
Evanston will play Natrona on Saturday.
