The Evanston High School girls’ basketball team dropped from No. 3 to No. 4 in the latest state coaches and media poll, released Thursday.
Since the previous state rankings, released on Jan. 18, Evanston claimed a 55-57 win against Green River and a 42-33 win against Rock Springs.
The voting for the top-four teams in Class 4A was close again this week. Thunder Basin (10-3, 2-0 4A East) was the heavy favorite with 168 points. Campbell County (9-5, 2-0 4A East) and Cheyenne East (10-4, 1-1 4A East) are both tied for second with 114 points.
The Lady Red Devils (10-3, 2-0 4A West) received 93 points and Kelly Walsh (8-4, 1-0 4A West) rounded out the top five with 39 points. Sheridan, Cheyenne Central and Green River also received votes.
Evanston’s only losses this season have come to Thunder Basin (65-58), Cheyenne East (58-56) and 3A Lyman (57-54).
In Class 3A action, the Lady Eagles from Lyman once again remained at No. 2 with 213 points. Douglas remained the top team with 246 points. Lyman (12-0, 3-0 3A West) received three first-place votes and Douglas (12-0, 2-0 3A East) received 14.
Buffalo remained at No. 3 with 129 points, while Powell jumped from No. 5 to No. 4 with 78 points. Mountain View (7-4, 1-2 3A West) dropped from No. 4 to No. 5 after receiving 51 points.
