EVANSTON — Beginning at 11 a.m., crowds of people lined up at Jody’s Diner in Evanston for the restaurant’s annual free meal on Thanksgiving day. Employees who donated their time and other community volunteers served community members plates filled with the main course prepared by the cooks in the kitchen.

Other people waiting to get a table lined up to help themselves at a table filled with side dishes and condiments. Owner and operator of Jody’s Diner, Jody Burton, donated the food for the main course. Her mother, Chris Ellison, said numerous community people donated the side dishes and the local Girl Scout troops donated the many pies and other desserts. Over the course of a few hours, Jody’s Diner served 222 hungry folks a special Thanksgiving dinner.
