James Jay Cook Sr.

James Jay Cook Sr. passed away at his home in Evanston, on Tuesday, March 20. He was born Aug. 18, 1937, in Albany, New York, to William and Elizabeth Garrison Cook.

James joined the United States Air Force right out of high school, spending 20 years honorably serving his country. While in the military, he met and married Norma Jean LaPorte in 1961. They were married for 57 years.

James enjoyed bowling, going fishing, barbecues at the park, listening to music and talking to and making new friends on the internet. James loved to tell stories and jokes and making people laugh.

James is survived by his wife of 57 years, Norma Jean LaPorte Cook; and his children, JJ Cook, Terrie Cazin, Sandra Cook and Matthew Cook. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his brothers, Richard Cook and Sonny Cook; and all of his friends whom he considered family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and two children.

A memorial service to honor his life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, at Hamblin Park in Evanston.
