EVANSTON — Students and staff at Horizon High School presented the Uinta County Library with a $459.31 donation check on Tuesday, Dec. 12, from funds HHS students raised at a Halloween Bake Sale.
Horizon teacher Annette Swayze said this is the fifth year students have been involved with putting on the bake sale to benefit the local library. The bake sale was held on Halloween at the entrance to Smith’s Food and Drug.
Swayze said she and the students were really grateful to Smith’s for allowing them to set up there. Students baked and sold the available items, and several said that the project was a lot of fun.
Xavier Hart, 17-year-old senior at HHS, said he has participated in the bake sale before.
“It feels great to help out the community, especially the library,” Hart said. “As a kid, I loved going there. They’ve been having a hard time lately and I would really hate to see us lose that resource.”
Michelle Kallas, director of the young adult and children’s library, said library staff is very grateful for the help.
“These kids are great, doing this year after year,” she said. “This money allows us to purchase YA books that we wouldn’t otherwise be able to get.”
