EVANSTON — Herald staff are excited to announce the addition of their latest member, sports editor Don Cogger, who comes to the Herald following three years at the Powell Tribune.
“I’m excited to have Don as part of our team at the Herald; he brings a lot of experience and excitement to the job,” Herald publisher Mark Tesoro said.
A self-described sports nut who was born in Minnesota before moving to Alaska before his first birthday, Don was looking to relocate to Evanston to follow his fiancée Aimee French, who is a teacher at Evanston Middle School.
Prior to his stint in Powell, Don wrote for the Miles City Star in Miles City, Montana, for about five years. He came to his career in journalism later in life, going back to school in his 30s after participating in an assortment of jobs, including construction work and working for his dad’s fly fishing and hunting business as a fishing and hunting guide.
Don said he’s called several locations home in his lifetime, including Minnesota, Alaska, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. He said he’s looking forward to getting to know the folks in Uinta County and covering local athletics in a small community.
“I always enjoy writing about hometown sports,” he said. “You get to know the coaches, parents and kids. It’s lots of fun to cover the athletes’ exploits.”
