Riders begin Gymkhana season

The Bear River Riders held a gymkhana (an equestrian event of timed games for riders and horses) at the Uinta County Fairgrounds on Saturday. The parking areas were full of trucks, trailers, people and horses. A total of 70 riders entered a variety of events in hopes of winning a check and scoring more points for the season.
Designed as family events, there are competitions for all age groups.
In the lead-line event, Bentley Combs riding ChiliBean won the event followed by Chance Lugibini on Mo and Kennedy Kleinlein was third on Lad.
In the “walk-trot barrels” competition Emily Harris on Shilo won the event with a time of 60.700. Karli Crompton was second with a time of 65.505 and Cooper Zwahlen was third with a time of 82.034 on Cash.
In the walk-trot poles event, Karli Crompton on Sophie was first with a time of 65.334. Emily Harris was second with a time of 66.161 and Cooper Zwahalen was third with a time of 104.794.
Harris and Shiloh won the walk-trot bonus with a time of 29.76. Crompton was second with a time of 34.473 and Brody Lugibini was third with a time of 36.376.
The final standings of the walk-trot show Harris in first with a total of 29 points, Crompton was second with 28 points and Zwahlen was third with 23 points.
The barrel racing competition is always a crowd pleaser and the Bear River Riders did not disappoint.
In the pee-wee division, ages 10 and under, Annalene France won the event riding Trixie, with a time of 22.843. Brauson Sims, riding Justin, was second with a time of 23.542 and Brookell Crompton on Rachet was third with a time of 23.832.
In the youth division, ages 11-13, Dani Rae Zwahlen on Cash took home some cash by placing first with a time of 20.974. Sarah Woodland was second riding Caspian with a time of 21.346. Makinsy Huntington on Windy was third with a time of 22.061.
The youth division, ages 14-17, was won by Haley Langford on Bailey with a time of 19.381. Haley Gross was second riding Hubs, with a time of 19.471 and McKenna Ivie was third on Geo with a time of 20.623.
In the adult division, ages 18-39, Megan Matsurra was first riding Robyn with a time of 19.686. Stacey Crompton was second on Jazzy with a time of 19.829. Emilene France was third riding Frosty with a time of 20.186.
For those 40 years old or more, Patricia Bindl won the event riding Mack with a very quick time of 19.14. Paige Woodland was second on Rio with a time of 19.769 and Brian Ivie was third, riding Pete, with a time of 20.713.
In the open poles event, pee-wee division, Annalene France won the event on Trixie with a time of 25.24. Tessa Zweahlen was second riding Ranger with a time of 29.382. Erich Jaques rode Bella to take third place with a time of 31.789.
In the junior division, ages 11-13, Sarah Woodland won the event while riding Caspian with a time of 23.522. Elizabeth Zwahlen was second riding Starbucks with a time of 33.09 and Emily Jaques was third on Dodge with a time of 36.15.
The youth division, ages 14-17, was won by Hadley Gross on Hubs with a time of 24.845. KcKenna Ivie was second with a time of 26.266 and Maggie Zwahlen, riding Bo, was third with a time of 27.446.
Adults ages 18-39 had Emilene France winning the poles event riding Frosty. She completed the event with a time of 23.442. Genesis Martinez on Lad was second with a time of 23.577.Jessy Lester riding CC was third with a time of 26.293.
Paige Woodland on Rio won the over-40 poles event with a time of 23.372. Patti Bindl was second on Mack with a time of 24.387 and Helen Fuller was third on Scooter with a time of 26.236.
The pee-wee open bowtie event was won by Brookell Crompton on Rachet with a time of 11.512. Brauson Sims was second on Justin with a time of 14.788 and Lester Kinslee was third on Niki with a time of 15.466.
Sarah Woodland on Caspian won the junior division with a time of 12.996. Dani Rae Zwahlen rode Cash to a second place finish with a time of 13.872 and Kelse Nelson on Rosie finished in third place with a time of 14.564.
Hadley Gross won the youth division riding her horse Hubs, with a time of 12.137. KcKenna Ivie was second on Geo with a time of 12.173 and Haley Langford was third on Bailey with a time of 12.315.
The adults, 18-39 division, was won by Bailey Lupher on Diva with a time of 12.444. Jessy Lester on CC was second with a time of 12.447 and Genesis Martinez was third riding Lad with a time of 12.606.
The over 40 division was won by Steve Simonson on Leo with a time of 12.399. Paige Woodland was second on Rio with a time of 12.4. Brian Ivie was third, riding Pete to complete the event with a time of 13.677.
Overall point leaders
In the pee-wee division, Tessa Zweahlen has a total of 26 points. Sarah Woodland leads the junior division with 29 points. McKenna Ivie leads the youth division with 29 points and Bailey Lupher leads the adult, 18-39 division with 26 points. Paige Woodland leads the 40 and over division with a total of 29 points.
