EVANSTON — For 36 years Scott Ehlers has been instructing local youth in the fundamentals of golf at Purple Sage Golf Course.
“The first year we had the junior golf camp, there were only nine children who signed up,” Ehlers said, “this year we will have about 180 students.”
To handle the large number of young people interested in the sport, Ehlers now holds six camps during the summer months.
“This has been so rewarding,” Ehlers said. “It is so good to see the kids out here, learning, having fun, enjoying the weather and getting better each day.”
Ehlers gives a lot of credit to his assistants, John Hudson, Noah Linford and Lexi Cornell.
“I couldn’t do this without all their help,” Ehlers said.
The golf camp has been going on so long that Ehlers is now working with the children of some of his earlier students.
