EVANSTON — There was no shortage of “oohs” and “aahs” from the audience when the Golden Dragon Acrobats took the stage at Evanston High School on Tuesday, Feb. 18, as part of the Arts Inc. Concert Series. It was a packed house as the performers appeared to defy gravity and the laws of physics with their acrobatics.
Billed as a family-owned performing arts company based in Frisco, Texas, the Golden Dragon Acrobats have toured the world and performed in 49 states, bringing their show of theater, dance, acrobatics, music and dazzling costumes to audiences far and wide.
Audience members certainly seemed to appreciate the show, including almost dizzying feats like a performer balancing on top of a stack of chairs that reached from floor to ceiling — one of the highlights of the evening. As he perched precariously atop the multiple wooden chairs and jokingly called out, “One more?” multiple audience members could be seen cringing and yelling back a forceful, “No!”
Other segments of the evening included juggling, intricately synchronized dance and movement, gymnastics, contortion, displays of strength and more. When the troupe took the stage for a final bow, the majority of the audience was on its feet for a loud standing ovation. Post-performance chatter seemed to indicate that those young, old and everywhere in between were stunned and appreciative of the talents that had been displayed.
