Four HUG athletes qualify for nationals during state trampoline and tumbling championships

EVANSTON — High Uinta Gymnastics (HUG) recently hosted the USA Gymnastics Wyoming State Trampoline and Tumbling Championship meet. This championship meet had 27 competitors’ levels 1 to 6 competing for the state titles. Bridger Valley Tumblers and HUG battled it out for top state honors and the opportunity to qualify Levels 5 and above athletes for the Stars and Stripes National Championships.

Ka-Larks from Casper canceled due to a spring snowstorm and closed roads. HUG qualified three tumblers and one trampoline competitor for the USA Gymnastics Stars and Stripes National Trampoline and Tumbling Championships to be held in Reno, Nevada, July 20-22.

At the recent championship meet, the competitors competed on the trampoline (TR), the double-mini trampoline (DM) and the power tumbling floor (TU). The national qualifiers have to be a Level 5 or above athlete and they have to qualify at state or regional championships to attend nationals.

Local athletes who qualified for nationals were Ashley Martin (TU and TR), Kylee Kent (TU) and Austin Robertson (TU).

“It was a great meet, and a wonderful opportunity for all the kids to shine,” one of the athlete’s grandparents said.

The HUG team, pre-team, and hot-shot classes are gearing up for the USA Gymnastics Regional Trampoline and Tumbling Championships to be held in Las Vegas, May 11-12, which is a battle of state champions from Alaska, Utah, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Nebraska, Washington and Wyoming.

This regional championship meet is the last qualifier for nationals and is the culminating event for the athletes not attending nationals. HUG qualified 27 athletes to attend the regional event; seven will attend: Ashley Martin, Victoria Aimone, Kylie Kent, Jaden Grasse, Madison Graham, Kinley Graham and Austin Robertson.
