A former Evanston woman is dead after an accident last week while riding a horse at a ranch she recently moved to near Payson, Utah. Shawna Martin, 36, was found with severe head trauma after apparently losing control of a horse she was riding and hit her head on a pole the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 12.
According to Provo’s Daily Herald, Utah County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Spencer Cannon said officials believe Martin was riding a horse that became out of control, and Martin either fell off or was bucked off the horse. An employee at a nearby ranch heard Martin scream and contacted authorities at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
“She really had no chance of surviving her injuries,” Cannon said in a press release. “There was some initial effort, but once the responders got on scene, it was pretty clear that she was deceased.”
