After six seasons as head coach of the Evanston High School girls’ basketball team, Jeremy Fessler has stepped down from the position.
The decision comes on the heels of a rebuilding year for the Lady Devils, who finished the 2020-21 season with a 2-16 record, and missed qualifying for the state tournament for the third straight year.
EHS Activities Director Bubba O’Neill said he’s “extremely disappointed” by Fessler’s decision, calling him “as good a basketball coach as Evanston’s ever had, in any capacity.”
“He’s very knowledgeable, but most importantly, he worked hard at his job,” O’Neill said. “The tremendous amount of time he spent in the offseason really illustrates his commitment to our kids, and to our community. Losing a person like that will be difficult...his overall record doesn’t tell the whole story. I think the world of the guy as a person, and I think the world of him as a coach.”
