Farmers market opens Thursday

Posted

EVANSTON — The sweet tang of vine ripened tomatoes accompanied by acoustic music floating on the breeze will return on Thursday as the Evanston farmers market kicks off another year of bringing you the freshest, locally-grown produce.

Booths are open 3-7 p.m. every Thursday, all summer long. In conjunction with the farmers market, the Urban Renewal Agency, Rocky Mountain Power and Roundhouse Restoration Inc. host a free weekly concert series called Music in the Air at Depot Square.

The concert series starts weekly at 6 p.m. (see a full concert lineup below). The market and concert series are both scheduled to run every Thursday starting next week — the concerts run through Aug. 24, and the market runs through Oct. 5. The final day of the market will include some family and kids’ activities, including a bounce house.

Celebrating its fifth year of operation, the market continues to bring tasty treats and locally-grown produce from southwestern Wyoming and northern Utah. This year’s booths will include Good to Grow (Evanston), Volker’s Bakery (Kamas, Utah) fresh artisan bread, Week’s Berries (Paradise, Utah) and Davis Farms (Perry, Utah), among other vendors.

“You see people at the market that you don’t see any other time of the year,” Leanne Hutchinson, one of the market organizers, said.

Typically, about 150-200 people attend each week. Those interested in having a booth may contact farmers market managers Leanne Hutchinson at (307) 679-1278 or Barb Martinez at (307) 679-1447.

The summer celebration goes on rain, shine — or snow — so bring the whole family out for a dose of sweet seasonal vegetables, berries and homegrown honey.
