Evanston Rodeo Series ends their 25-year anniversary


EVANSTON — The Evanston Rodeo Series for 2017 has come to an end. It was a series filled with great competition and outstanding stock provided by both Circle J Rodeo and Diamond H. 

This series was also a time to thank all those who have worked for 25 years initially to kick off the series, and then keep it going for 25 years. It takes a lot of people to put on a rodeo from the announcers, such as the Kelly family, and the cowboys and cowgirls to thes sponsors and a large staff of people who keep the events running smoothly. 

Friday and Saturday ended this year’s series but the competition was fierce.

In the 40 and over tie down roping, Ryan Yamauchi of Soda Springs, Idaho, won the event with a time of 12:20. David Haskell of Payson, Utah, was second with a time of 12:94

In the junior steer riding, Myles Carlson from Evanston won the event with a score of 70. Garrett Dearden, Brock Roberts and Braunson Sims, all of Evanston, tied with scores of 67.

In the tie down roping, Morgan King from Syracuse, Utah, won the event with a time of 8:77. Colton Barker from Fort Bridger was second with a time of 9:29 and Clinton Kap from West Haven, Utah, was third with a time of 9:91.

Roger Hewitt from Mountain View won the 18 and under tie down event with a time of 15:03. Wyatt Hallam, also from Mountain View, was second with a time of 16:01.

In the bareback riding event, Braxton Neilson from Roosevelt, Utah, won with a score of 83. Wyatt Johnson from Payson, Utah, was second with a score of 80.

Jackie Kennedy from Evanston won the ladies breakaway roping event with a time of 3:31. In second place was Sierra Stoll from Mountain View with a time of 3:87 and Mesa Martin from Mountain View and Shalee King from Syracuse, Utah,  tied with a time of 3:91 for third.

Jackson Woolsey of Morgan, Utah, won the junior breakaway roping with a time of 4:27. Kassidy Hewitt of Mountain View was second with a time of 5:69 and Carson Barker from Fort Bridger was third with a time of 13:91.

In the #10 team roping competition, Ben Strahan from Oakley, Utah, and Weston Parker from Bluffdale, Utah, teamed up to win the event with a time of 7:08. Darby Jones of Bear River and Riggen Moon from Evanston were second with a time of 8:19. Riggen Moon and Kendall Barker, both from Evanston, placed third with a time of 8:91.

Kai Rockhill from Oakley, Utah, won the saddle bronc event with a score of 83. Clayson Hutchings from Heber City, Utah, was second with a score of 81 an Shelby Terry from Bear River was third with a score of 80.

Lucy Bowns from Evanston won the ladies barrel racing event with a time of 17:912. Darcy Grant from Bluffdale, Utah, was second with a time of 18:087 and Jaye Synan of Evanston with a time of 18:152.

Ann Dee Balliston won the junior barrel racing from Magna, Utah, with a time of 18:662. Harley Beasley from Montpelier, Idaho, was second with a time of 18:925 and Kadence Martin of Evanston was third with a time of 19:447.

The #13 team roping event was won by the team of Clinton Kap from West Haven, Utah, and Nathan Dahl of Ogden, Utah, with a time of 6:06. Then Clinton Kap teamed up with Justin Hodson from West Haven, Utah, and took second place with a time of 6:35. Stetson Talbot of Ogden, Utah, and Brady Woodward from West Haven, Utah, placed third with a time of 7:34.

In bull riding, there was only one qualifying ride. Shane Adams from Tremonton scored 87.
