EVANSTON — The Evanston Outlaws didn’t display much rust coming off their second long break in the summer of 2018 season. The Wyoming AA American Legion squad traveled north to split a doubleheader with the Casper Oilers in their initial conference match-up, winning 5-4 in the 11 a.m. affair, while dropping the second game in the twin-bill, 5-9, at Mike Lansing Field on Thursday, to sit 15-5 on the season and 1-1 in AA West competition.
But then the team journeyed home from north-central Wyoming to turn around and take part in Heber City, Utah’s Firecracker Tournament, going 1-3 with a game scheduled for Monday, July 2, too late for Herald Press time, after being idle with play suspended on Sunday.
On Friday, June 29, in Heber City, against Utah-based competition, the Outlaws were narrowly defeated, 5-4, by the Herriman Mustangs, but came back to pick up a 9-4 win over Cedar.
On Saturday, June 30, Evanston was defeated 9-5 by Dominacana from Orem and then dropped a 5-3 heartbreaking decision to another Orem team, resulting in an overall 16-8 record, so far, with less than a month remaining in the regular season.
