Jacksonville, Florida — Landstar System, Inc. (NASDAQ:LSTR), a worldwide, asset-light provider of integrated transportation management solutions delivering safe, specialized transportation services, has recognized Ray Pierce of Evanston as a Two Million Mile Safe Driver. During his career with Landstar as an independent truck owner-operator, Pierce has driven over two million consecutive miles without a preventable accident.
Pierce is one of 11 men and women to be named Landstar Two Million Mile Safe Drivers. Landstar recently honored 137 owner-operators at an awards ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee, for their outstanding safety records and professionalism behind the wheel. Collectively, these owner-operators have safely driven a total of 137 million miles.
On average, it takes a business capacity owner (BCO) 10 years to travel a million miles, a distance that would take the typical car driver 67 years to complete. BCO is Landstar’s term for the independent truck owner-operators who provide the company with transportation capacity under exclusive lease arrangements.
“Ray Pierce is among the safest and most talented owner-operators in the industry. Evanston should be very proud of him and this outstanding accomplishment,” said Landstar President and CEO Jim Gattoni.
Landstar’s Class of 2016 honorees include 124 business capacity owners (BCOs) with one million miles of safe driving, 11 new Two Million Mile Safe Drivers and two new Three Million Milers.
