The Evanston High School football team has last week’s loss to Star Valley in the back of its mind.
But the Red Devils (1-3) are using that for motivation going into this week’s matchup at Powell (1-3) at 7 p.m. today.
“We’ve just got to be fundamentally sound and we’ve got to be consistent,” Evanston coach Pat Fackrell said at practice on Wednesday. “When we call a play, everybody has to be on the same page. We can’t have 10 of them going one way and one going the other. That was really what happened to us against Star Valley.
“We all want to show that we’re a much better football team than we were last weekend.”
Powell quarterback is 30-of-72 for 264 yards through the air, while runningback AJ Lewis has run for 200 yards on 48 carries. Jacob Harrison has added 191 rushing yards on the season on 27 carries.
The Panthers average 192 yards on offense and are allowing an average of 198on defense.
Powell is coming off a 26-0 loss to Douglas. The Panthers claimed a 29-0 win against Jackson in Week 3 and combined to score nine points in their first two games of the season against Douglas and Worland.
Evanston hopes to go 1-0 against Powell this week.
“We’ve had good, physical practices,” Evanston’s Blake Overy said. “We’ve had lots of guys competing for jobs. Everybody is playing well.”
