EVANSTON — Eight swimmers for Evanston High School will compete at this year’s Class 4A state meet on Friday and Saturday at the Aquatic Center in Gillette.
Jade Caves, Marie Davis, McKinzey Camphouse and Rachel Buzarde will represent the Lady Red Devils qualified for state in individual events. They will all also swim on at least one of the three relay teams.
Rebeca White, Heather Buzarde, Ozzy Ross and Charli Fadden will also be part of at least one relay team.
Evanston coach Kate Schmidt is optimistic about how the relay teams will fare at state.
“The girls have continued to cut time,” Schmidt said. “They swam really well at conference. I would love to see them make the top six.”
Rachel Buzarde qualified for state in the 50-, 100-, 200- and 500-yard freestyle. The freshman also made the cut in the 100-yard backstroke and will be a member of the 200 and 400-yard freestyle relay teams.
Camphouse earned state cuts in the 200-yard individual medley, along with the 50- and 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. She will also be part of Evanston’s 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay teams.
Davis qualified for state toward the end of the season and will swim in the 100, 200 and 500-yard freestyle. She is also a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay team.
Caves will represent the Lady Red Devils in the 50-yard freestyle, and will be part of the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay teams.
White, Heather Buzarde, Ross and Fadden are all members of the 200-yard medley relay. Fadden will also be a part of Evanston’s 200-yard freestyle relay team.
The Class 4A meet kicks off at 3:30 p.m. Friday. The top-12 individuals and teams qualify for the finals, which will start at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Campbell County will be looking for its fifth straight state championship. The Lady Camels have won 11 of the previous 12, and 19 of the previous 25, state championship meets.
