Evanston finishes 12th at state swimming

Lady Red Devils cut time in final day at state

GILLETTE – The Evanston High School girls’ swim team finished 12th with 24 points on Saturday at the Class 4A state meet at the Aquatic Center in Gillette.

Laramie won the state championship with 258 points, while Sheridan (248) and Cheyenne Central (176) rounded out the top three teams.

The Lady Red Devils 400-yard freestyle relay team of Marie Davis, Rachel Buzarde, Jade Caves and McKinzey Camphouse finished eighth in 3:54.31. Evanston swam a 4:02.70 in the preliminary race on Friday.

Rachel Buzarde finished 10th in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:05.03. The freshman swam a 2:06.29 in the preliminary race.

Buzarde was also 10th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:35.70. She finished the race in 5:42.74 in the preliminaries on Friday.

Evanston junior McKinzey Camphouse finished ninth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:03.81 to help pace the Lady Red Devils.

Evanston’s 200-yard medley relay of Rebeca White, Heather Buzarde, Ozzy Ross and Charli Fadden was 11th in 2:15.43.
