Evanston City Council approves board appointments, passes liquor law change

EVANSTON — At the Evanston City Council meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Evanston Mayor Kent Williams brought appointments to local boards and commissions to the council for approval. Those appointments were unanimously approved. 

Curtis Rex was reappointed to the Airport Joint Powers Board for a three-year term and David Welling was reappointed to the Emergency Services Joint Powers Board for a three-year term. Jim Davis, Margaret Lester and Shelly Horne were all reappointed to the Historic Preservation Commission for three-year terms. 

Evan Perkes was reappointed to the Lodging Tax Board for a three-year term, and Michael Day and Maryl Thompson were both reappointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission Board of Adjustments for three-year terms. Trudy Lym was reappointed to the Revolving Loan Board for a three-year term, Tib Ottley to the Uinta County Economic Development Commission for a three-year term and Leslie Lunsford to the Urban Renewal Board for a five-year term. 

Evan Perkes and DuWayne Jacobsen were both reappointed and Gordon Robinson appointed (replacing Allan Hansen) to the Urban Systems Board for two-year terms. 

In other business, Evanston Police Chief Jon Kirby presented the third and final reading for Ordinance 18 – 07, which amends Sections 4-26.2C, 4-30 A and 4-31 D of Chapter 4, Alcoholic Beverages, to provide for the sale of alcoholic beverages from a licensed building instead of a dispensing room and to allow persons to remain in the restaurant of a licensed building after 2:30 a.m.  The ordinance was approved unanimously.

New business included a motion to accept financial disclosure statements from the mayor, city council, city clerk and city treasurer. The motion was approved unanimously.

Dean Barker of planning and zoning presented the next motion under new business, to authorize final acceptance and payment to Intermountain Electric Service, Inc., for the Evanston Recreation Center pump room electrical project. Acceptance of the work and final payment was unanimously approved.

The meeting ended with public participation and comments.

Maryl Thompson announced the upcoming Round About Wine fundraising event sponsored by the Wyoming Community Foundation. The event will take place on Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Evanston Roundhouse. Thompson encouraged all to come for a fun evening that benefits the Evanston community.

Kayne Pyatt with the 19th Amendment’s 100th Anniversary Celebration committee invited all to the Sagebrush Theatre’s kickoff production on Friday, Jan. 25, at the Strand Theater. She reminded everyone that the entertainment for that night is free and asked members of the council to take posters she brought to display at their offices.
