Elite Wrestling competes at State Championship

Posted

All season Evanston’s Elite Wrestling members have competed hard. The wrestlers may be small but their competitive nature is as strong as their Olympic counterparts.

Several wrestlers qualified for the state championship held in Casper April 7-9 and performed extremely well.

In Freestyle wrestling, Caysen Dana finished second in his class. Brock Roberts finished in third place. Grey Hamilton, Brady Roberts and Bridger Roberts each placed fourth in their respective classes.

Ryker Winward, Kolby Hamilton, Rylan Winward, Coleman Dunford, Kyson Hamilton and Walker Wilson did not place at the event, according to their coach, Colt Hamilton, “but they wrestled hard.”

In Folkstyle wrestling, Caysen Dana finished second, Bridger Roberts was in fourth place and Grey Hamilton was fifth.

Ryker Winward, Rylan Winward, Kyson Hamilton, Kolby Hamilton, Colman Dunford, Walker Wilson, Brock Roberts and Brady Roberts all competed in the Folkstyle but did not place in the event.

The wrestlers in the popular Greco Roman format did well. Brock and Bridger Roberts each earned a third place title in their classes and Brady Roberts was in fifth place.

“Due to spring break we didn’t have all of the kids competing that we normally would have had,” said coach Hamilton. “Some kids ended up in 32 and 64 man brackets with the best wrestlers from all over the state. It was a great experience for all the kids and they really showed the results of a lot of hard work.

“I want to thank the parents and the kids for all the hard work and support we have had this season and we look forward to starting back up in the fall,” said Hamilton. “I look forward to building on this season’s team and coming back even stronger next season.
