EHS swimming and diving second at Evanston Invite

Led by a pair of wins by Red Devil senior Jaxon Nicholls, the Evanston High School boys’ swimming and diving team made quite a splash at last weekend’s Evanston Invitational, placing second in the seven-team event.

Rock Springs took the top spot in the event with 245 points, followed by Evanston with 211. Rawlins was third with 187 points, Green River was fourth with 185 points and Lyman rounded out the top five with 171 points.

The Red Devils won four events on the day, with Nicholls taking the top spot in both the 100 butterfly (57.67) and 100 backstroke (57.03), with state-qualifying times in each. Hunter Jensen won the 100 breaststroke in a state-qualifying time of 1:05.83, while the 200 medley relay team of Nicholls, Jensen, Jaxson Daniels and Jamar McDowell won the event with a time of 1:52.17. Jensen also placed third in the 200 individual medley (2:17.88).

Other notable performances included Eli Wilson in the 500 freestyle (3rd, 6:25.03), Kyler Hogman in the 100 breaststroke (3rd, 1:12.50), Eric Hughes in diving (7th, 219.75), Porter Hall in the 200 freestyle (11th, 2:26.54) and McDowell in the 50 freestyle (11th, 26.71).

The 200 freestyle relay team of Nicholls, Jensen, Braddock Brown and Hogman finished fourth with a time of 1:49.72; the 400 freestyle relay team of Hall, Wilson, Daniels and McDowell finished fifth with a time of 4:04.86.

The Red Devils are back on the road this weekend, taking on some heavy competition at the Cheyenne Invitational Friday and Saturday.
