EVANSTON — Red Devil and Lady Red Devil golf traveled to Afton on Tuesday for their second tournament of the season with the boys’ team picking up their second-consecutive victory and the girls’ team notching their first win in the Star Valley tournament.

In team scores for the boys, Evanston combined for a 298, good for first place. Jackson came next with a 367, followed by Star Valley and Kemmerer, tied for third place, at 389. Pinedale posted a 455 and Riverton closed with a team round of 460. Lyman also competed but the Eagles did not have four individual scores to comprise a team score.

Brady Hurd showed the way for the Red Devils with an 18-hole round of 72. Dominic D’Anzi was next with a 74, followed by Mason Smith and Braxton Lind, each posting rounds of 76 to make up Evanston’s team score of 298, as the top-four Red Devil golfers.

Rounding out the Red Devil boys’ team individual scores were Mason Ellingford with a 79, Kyle Barker at 89 and Bodie Wicks with a 108 score.

The girls’ team played without standout Kyra Sponenburgh and the three freshman golfers saw their first action of the season. The top three scores are combined for the team score on the girls’ side of the ledger.

Only two girls’ teams posted team scores, with Evanston out on top with a 388. The host Lady Braves finished at 439.

Aryana Little led the way for the Lady Red Devils, with an 18-hole total of 114. Kelsey Hunting was next at 129 and JaLynn Reichenberg finished with a round of 145.

Evanston was also set to compete in a dual against Rock Springs on Thursday, August 16, too late for press results.

Coach Carroll told the Herald that Sponenburgh would be the lone representative for the girls’ team.

“Our freshman girls showed some promise in Star Valley, but we’re playing the lakes course in Rock Springs and we don’t believe our freshman girls are quite ready for that caliber of competition,” Carroll said.

“Everyone, our full complement, will be in action when we host our first tournament next week on Thursday and Friday, August 23 and 24,” he added.
