EVANSTON — It isn’t every day that the cheerleaders get a day of praise. They are usually the ones on the sidelines who are constantly supporting everyone else.
Monday night was different. Families of the Evanston High School cheer team gathered together at the Evanston Roundhouse to celebrate 10 months of hard work by their girls.
This year’s cheer team ended their season with 14 girls, coached by Daron Shelton and Laura Barker.
The banquet started out with Coach Shelton thanking the parents for always being there for the girls and their team by bringing forgotten shoes, ponytail holders, bobby pins and anything else that was needed.
After an opening prayer given by Gary Welling, attendees enjoyed a plate of food catered by Costa Vida. After awards and memorabilia, the seniors passed down the Spirit Stick to the juniors.
