With a big Western “Howdy,” second vice president Shauna Brimhall welcomed Daughters of the Uinta Wyoming Company DUP to the annual convention held April 29, at the Round House in Evanston. Verna Hazelbaker, the “Legacy” editor from the International Society of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, was the presenter. She gave instructions in the officers meeting and the general meeting.
Theme for the convention was “Let’s Round Up Our Ancestors.” The theme tables had branding irons and drawings of brands that were used by the families of the Daughters. The Daughters from the seven camps in Uinta County brought photos of their ancestors, which were placed as the centerpieces on the luncheon tables. During lunch, the Daughters told of the ancestors whose pictures they had brought during a table talk session.
First vice president Louise Angwin greeted 44 Daughters in the general meeting. Chris Weiss, an Evanston school teacher, entertained the group with his guitar and original songs he had written.
Officers for the 2017-2019 term were installed by Hazelbaker. They are president Peggy Nixon, first vice president Alice Hughes, second vice president Sandra Despain, recording secretary Alice Hammond, corresponding secretary and historian Sarah Taylor, treasurer Diane Gardner, and registrar Louise Angwin.
Special recognition was given to eight Daughters who have been members for 50 years. They were Emma Williams, Glenna Stonebraker, Helen Kennedy, and Nadene Cook of Camp Courage; Shirley Barnes of Camp Fort Supply; Marion Lee of Camp Heritage; Lois Christiansen and Nelda Barker of Camp Sego Lily. A service award pin was presented by Hazelbaker to Kay Ann Saxton for her work on the ISDUP Board with the satellite museums and Utah Museum Association, as well as the Uinta Wyoming Company DUP Newsletter.
The meeting closed with the Daughters singing “Home on the Range.”
