Dorothy May Stevison

Posted

It is with a great sadness that we announce on April 16 the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother Dorothy May Stevison at the age of 93.

Dorothy, the second child of 15, was born on Dec. 1, 1923, in Kemmerer, to David and Dorothy Miller. As a young girl, Dorothy moved with her family to Mountain Home, Idaho, and later settled in Glenns Ferry, Idaho.

During WWII, Dorothy worked as a waitress and would sing for the soldiers prior to them leaving for Europe. During this time, Dorothy met a soldier who became the love of her life, Coy Lawsen Stevison. Dorothy married Coy on Jan. 10, 1943. After the war, Coy and Dorothy moved to Butte, Montana, and for 50 years lived there raising their children prior to moving to Evanston in 1997.

Dorothy had five children (four sons and one daughter); Frank Wesley, Cora Darlene, David Lawsen, James Richard and Robert Glenn Stevison.

Dorothy was a devout Christian and a member of the Church of Christ. Other interests and hobbies included Thursday afternoon card games with family and friends, listening to country western music and driving and seeing the country. She was very well known for having a lead foot. Dorothy believed if a car couldn’t do 110 or faster going uphill, then it wasn’t worth buying.

Dorothy had 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by three of her children, Cora Darlene Hulse of Evanston, David (Liz) Stevison of Beaverton, Oregon, and Richard (Donna) Stevison of Cody; and eight of her siblings.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, David and Dorothy Miller; her husband, Coy Lawsen Stevison; two sons, Frank Wesley and Robert Glenn Stevison; six siblings; and son-in-law Floyd Gary Hulse.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, at Crandall Funeral Home with a viewing one hour prior. Interment will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 21, at Mountain View cemetery in Butte, Montana.Online condolences and guest book are at www.crandallfhevanston.com.
