Davis Middle School gave several awards at the end of the year for students’ achievements.

Five students were chosen by teachers for being the top academic students in math, reading and science. Hannah Ochinero, Kirsten Rogers and Lilly Williams were the top reading students, Ally Pace was the top math student and Shelby McIntosh was the top science student.

The President’s Outstanding Academic Excellence Award is a national award recognizing students above the 90th percentile in reading and math. This award was accompanied by a pin and a letter from President Trump. The DMS winners were Logan Robinson, Kathryn Williams, Allyson Sawyer, Robert Gomez, Bailey Hodson, Kirsten Rogers, Brenden Li, Sydney Lyman, Alexia Juarez, Jordynn Tyler, Quetzalli Penaloza, Cora Hatch, Lilly Williams, Kambree Brown, Cole Francis, Ally Pace and Michael Tyler.

The President’s Outstanding Academic Achievement Award was also given to 27 students. This award, also a national award, recognizes students in the top 20 percent of students throughout the nation in math and reading. It was accompanied by a pin and a letter from President Trump.

This year, DMS introduced a new award, the Hope of America award. This award recognizes an eighth grade boy and girl who represent the hopes and aspirations for a promising future. The recipients are selected by teachers and staff at DMS and must go through a nomination process. The first winners of the award are Lilly Williams and Caden Fry.

Heidi Barton and Jagger Mitchell were recipients of the North Star Award. The North Star Award is selected by the DMS student body. Students are asked to nominate one eighth grade boy and girl whom they look to as an example of a model student and citizen.

Four students had perfect attendance this year: Landon Palmer, Zoey Young, Kelsey Carter and Ryan Baldwin. Ryan was also recognized for having perfect attendance not only this year but for three straight years in grades 6-8.
