After 23 rounds and outspelling 27 other competitors from all four Evanston elementary schools and both middle schools, three local boys came out on top in the UCSD No. 1 district spelling bee on Thursday, Feb. 25. First place went to Clark Elementary student Luis Ibarra, second to Clark’s Nash Taggart and third to Davis Middle School’s Remington Cates. The five top spellers from each school’s individual bee earned the right to participate in the district bee. Ibarra, Taggart and Cates will now represent the district at the Wyoming state bee on March 20. (COURTESY PHOTO)
