Coke-infused recipes could elevate your holiday cookout

Posted

It’s the time for celebrations and cookouts and if you’re still trying to figure out what to make, look no further … Coca-Cola to the rescue! It also happens to be my favorite soda to drink. I have a cake that I make with Coke in it, and it got me wondering about other recipes and there are a lot.

I chose fairly simple recipes that I hope will have your family as happy as mine. The burgers are juicy, the beans are the perfect sweetness and the barbecue sauce has the perfect sweetness and tang that I can’t wait to try on some ribs. Happy Fourth of July! Enjoy!

Coca-Cola Barbecue Sauce

1 1/2 cups Coca-Cola

1 cup ketchup

1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

1/4 cup steak sauce

3 tablespoons brown sugar

2 teaspoons paprika

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon pepper

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1 tablespoon corn starch

1 tablespoon water

Add all ingredients except the cornstarch and water to a medium-sized saucepan. Heat over medium high heat and whisk to combine.

Bring mixture to a soft boil, reduce heat to medium low and simmer for about 10 minutes. In a small bowl combine the cornstarch and water together. Whisk the cornstarch mixture into the simmering barbecue sauce.

Heat for one more minute to thicken. Remove the sauce from heat, pour into a mason jar for easy storage in the refrigerator.

Coca-Cola Baked Beans

1 16-ounce package of smoked bacon

1 large onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

4 15-ounce cans of assorted beans,  drained and rinsed

1/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1/3 cup molasses

3/4 cup Coca-Cola

1 14.5-ounce can petite tomatoes, diced

2 1/2 teaspoons dried mustard

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a large oven-safe skillet or Dutch oven, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp and golden. Drain bacon on a paper towel. When bacon is cool, crumble and set aside.

Pour off all but 2 tablespoons of bacon fat. Add onion and garlic to skillet or Dutch oven and cook until golden, about five minutes. Add all remaining ingredients and stir to combine. Cover skillet or Dutch oven and bake for one hour.

Coca-Cola Burgers

1 large egg

1/2 cup Coca-Cola, divided in half

1/2 cup crushed saltine crackers

6 tablespoon French salad dressing, divided

2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese

1 1/2 pounds ground beef

In a bowl, mix together the egg, 1/4 cup of Coca-Cola, saltines, 2 tablespoons of French dressing, and parmesan cheese. Mix in the ground beef. Form into six patties.

Pour remaining Coca-Cola and French dressing into a small bowl and mix well. Grill burgers, brushing with Coca-Cola mixture while grilling.
