Clarissa Dawn Matthews Hutchinson

Posted

A few short weeks, after celebrating her 92nd birthday, our angel mother passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 20.

Clarissa Dawn Matthews was born in Evanston on June 16, 1930, to LeRoy and Rachel Matthews. She had one younger brother, Malcolm and a younger sister, Dixie.

Dawn married Harvey Williard Hutchinson on Sept. 1, 1948, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.

They were blessed with nine children: Gene Hutchinson (Bonnie), Beverley Jensen, Sharon Lester (Perry), Coleen Jolly (Blaine), Russel Hutchinson (Helen), David Hutchinson, Dennis Hutchinson (Starla), Cindi Oldroyd and Michael Hutchinson (Valerie).

To date, her posterity consists of 43 grandchildren, 106 great-grandchildren and 12-great-great-grandchildren.

Dawn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many capacities. Dawn was proud to be a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She worked at the Wyoming State Hospital and the Uinta County School District for many years.

Her greatest joy was serving in the Ogden Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint Temple. Her favorite job was being the right-hand woman working with her sweetheart on the ranch.

Dawn is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Rachel Matthews; her husband, Harvey; her brother, Malcolm Matthews; a daughter, Sharon; and a son, David.

Dawn loved to sing, play the piano and bake for her grandchildren — she was renowned for her homemade bread, spaghetti and cookies.
