EVANSTON — The Evanston Civic Orchestra and Chorus will present “Carols and Fantasies” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, at Davis Middle School.
Music ranges from “Carol of the Bells” and excerpts from “The Nutcracker,” to the rollicking “Variations on Jingle Bells.”
The program is designed to appeal to the entire family. Children will especially enjoy the orchestra’s rendition of “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” with guest narrator Michelle Kallas, Uinta County Library children’s librarian.
In addition to individual pieces, the chorus and orchestra combine to present three songs, including Mac Wilberg’s arrangement of “Angels We Have Heard on High.”
Evanston Middle School’s jazz choir and Davis Middle School’s select choir join the chorus as they sing Franz Biebl’s “Ave Maria.”
Matthew Mainella is the orchestra’s new music director. He lives in Salt Lake and has also served as principal conductor of the University of Utah Campus Symphony and assistant conductor of the Salt Lake Symphony.
Nathan Baxter, the choir director at Evanston Middle School, has directed the chorus since 2017.
The event is free, and refreshments will be served at a reception following the concert.
