Boys varsity team wins 56-35 over the Wolves

The Red Devils faced Green River in their second meeting this year. In the previous game, Evanston dominated the court and Thursday’s game was not any different. The Red Devils won the game 56-35.

The first quarter opened with Evanston taking a 7-0 lead. Green River came alive and sank three field goals before Evanston and Green River exchanged scores and the Wolves tied the score at 11.

Jesse Barker hit the bucket to push Evanston ahead 13-11 and then Welling sank a 3-pointer in the closing seconds of the first quarter ,increasing the Red Devils’ lead to 16-12.

Chase Critchfield opened the second quarter with a 2-point bucket. The Wolves scored one from the foul line only to be answered by a field goal from Brandon Wicks.

Evanston pulled out to a ten-point lead, 28-18, with some smart play by Barker, Wicks, Chase Anderson and Hunter Groll.

Two free throws from Devin Love and Chance Hofer closed the Red Devil lead and the half ended with Evanston leading 28-22.

Seth Davis took control in the third quarter, scoring eight points. Chase Critchfield scored five and Barker had four points. With a free throw from Brandon Wicks the Red Devils scored 18 points in the third quarter compared to 11 points by Green River.

Throughout the third quarter Evanston continued to extend their lead. The most points scored by any one Wolves player was a 3-pointer by Hofer.

The Red Devils slowed the game down, used the clock, and were cautious about the shots they took, mostly taking high-percentage shots.

The fourth quarter was owned by the Red Devils.

Seth Davis scored four more points and Critchfield, Anderson and Crofts each had two points for the final quarter. For the Wolves, only Matthew Seymuor could score. With more than two minutes left in the game Evanston put in players from the JV team and the game ended with Evanston winning 56-35.

Jesse Barker and Seth Davis both had 10 points for the game and Chase Critchfield had 13 points.
